Oh sure! Thanks for the long advance warning! OK, first things first. If you're here today and you see this message before tonight, you could try to catch the Padres game against the Mets. Pedro is starting, plus you'd get a chance to check out the new ballpark and see 5 of the 25 (Pedro, Dave Roberts, Mark Bellhorn, Doug Mirabelli, Alan Embree). As for places to go, you can be like a tourist and check out the San Diego Zoo or Sea World. Taking a drive over the Coronado Bay Bridge will give you a great view of San Diego Bay and the downtown area. Also, you could get a look at the Hotel Del Coronado while over in Coronado. The weather's not that great right now, so a beach trip might be out of the question. I would however, recommend catching the sunset over the Pacific (that is, if these clouds go away). A couple of good places to do this are Ocean Beach (where the sunset, the surfers and the pier make a great scene), or the Torrey Pines Gliderport (just west of UCSD). The gliderport is up on some high cliffs above Black's Beach (a nude beach), and features a stunning view miles up the coast toward Carlsbad and to the south to La Jolla. As for places to eat, it depends on what your budget is and where you're staying. For fine dining, you could check out Bertrand at Mister A's, which overlooks downtown, or George's at the Cove or the Marine Room, both in La Jolla and both with great view of the Pacific. For basic fast food, I would recommend In-N-Out (for the best burgers and fries anywhere) or Rubio's (the original and still one of the best fish tacos). I'm sure there's a lot more things I could recommend, but this will get you started.

Thanks Bob! We got in earlier today and did manage to make our way to the zoo before the conference opening. Unfortunately, the game just wasn't feasable for us tonight. We're hoping to catch the game Monday so I can at least scratch another stadium from the list (just 5 and counting, but I'll get there eventually). We got a suggestion to check out Lou & Mickey's, which was good but a little pricey for our tastes. Not sure what the plans for tomorrow will be, so we'll probably be building from your suggestions and try to get in as much as possible before departing on Tuesday. Sorry about the late notice. It kinda crept up on me as my new job has kept me rather busy, and then suddenly it was here. It took me until just the other day to put two and two together and think to even ask you for suggestions. Next time, I'll try to plan ahead more!

If you let me know what kind of restaurant you're looking for, the price range, and what area(s) of town, I might be able to give you a more specific recommendation. Those other restaurants I mentioned are pretty expensive and might be out of your price range. Also, check your inbox, if you haven't already.
