This question came from seantoo on our Yahoo league message board:
Bob do another flipper do you weigh in how a team actually performed rather than just the score?
The answer is yes. The rankings I do for FLIPPER have three components: 1. Overall Performance: For each team's average weekly stats in each category, they receive a score of between 1-10 depending on where they fall between the minimum and maximum values for that stat. The sum of the scores is converted to a winning percentage. 2. Trend: This is similar to the Overall Performance measure above, but with the most recent weeks weighted higher than those at the beginning of the season. This accounts for players getting hot or cold, as well as personnel moves that a team has made. 3. Strength of Schedule: The average weekly stats for a team's opponents is scored as in #1 above to produce a winning percentage. Then, each team's actual winning percentage gets adjusted based on how strong their schedule was. So seantoo, each team's real winning percentage is only part of the equation. And as you indicated, you have faced difficult opponents as evidenced by their .631 winning percentage. This has contributed to the following rankings after last week: 1. Lew-e-ville Sluggers (.696) 2. Who's Your Papi? (.586) 3. Groovitudes II (.573) 4. Driftastic (.546) 5. HomerJ (.542) 6. Sryd Sabermatricians (.507) 7. Guru's Worm Burners (.465) 8. In Theo We Trust (.449) 9. Yuck the Fankees (.424) 10. Marshvegas Punks (.230) Unforunately seantoo, you are matched up this week against the only team with a more difficult schedule to date (.737), which explains why NYYS is ahead 7-2 right now.
